Today Kia introduced it’s Trackster concept at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. This “heavy-metal” version of its Soul is a high-performance model, powered by a 250-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, mated with a six-speed manual transmission.
It rides on 19-inch HRE-K1 monoblock wheels and provides stopping power with Brembo high-performance brakes featuring six-piston calipers up front.
The Trackster enhances the base Soul’s “wild boar with a backpack look.” It’s about an inch longer and 5-plus inches wider than the production Soul, and sports front body-side air scoops and beefed-up rear fenders. Up front it wears LED headlamps, a small Kia “tiger” grille and a carbon-fiber lower valance with a large air intake. The rear-end design complements the front, with air scoops behind the wheel arches, dual round exhausts exiting a blacked-out panel mirroring the front air intake, and taillamps with trim lighting that traces the rear pillars.
Inside are racing seats upholstered in Inferno Red suede inserts and Granite Gray leather outers. The steering wheel also is wrapped in suede. Replacing the rear seat is an equipment tray, providing a spot to rest a helmet.
Kia says the Trackster may not see production, but serves as a “showcase for ideas we may someday pursue.”
