Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Replace the air filter

2

At a minimum, engine air filters should be replaced twice per year as part of car maintenance. So, if you haven't done so already, replacing your car's air filter is a good idea. When an air filter reaches the point where it causes enough of a pressure drop to restrict airflow, the car's fuel economy, performance and emissions begin to deteriorate, getting progressively worse until the dirty filter is replaced.

Kia Partners with Her Highway in a Nationwide Drive to Raise Awareness of Breast Cancer

Kia Provides Vehicles for Drive Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Kia-logo1

  • 10 city, across-the-nation drive event will conclude in New York City to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October
  • Kia's vehicle fleet plays host to breast cancer survivors, influential women journalists/bloggers and female motorsports drivers

Kia Motors America (KMA) announced today that it has partnered with HerHighway.com, an online site empowering women with bumper-to-bumper automobile knowledge, to supply Kia vehicles for "Drive Breast Cancer Awareness," an across-the-nation drive event, which aims to raise public awareness around breast cancer. The eight-day cross-country road trip will start in Los Angeles on September 25 and finish in New York City on October 2, which marks the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

More than 100 women will participate, including breast cancer survivors, journalists, bloggers and race car drivers Shea Holbrook, Ashley Van Dyke and Melanie Troxel. The vehicles that KMA is providing for the drive include the 2013 Kia Sportage EX, 2013 Kia Soul! (Exclaim) and 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid. Along the way, the drivers will make pit stops at various locations to talk about the event and to raise awareness about breast cancer. The public can also follow the drivers via Twitter with the #HerHighway and #Kia hashtags.

"Kia is deeply committed to supporting HerHighway and the 'Drive Breast Cancer Awareness' event which delivers much-needed awareness towards a disease that affects approximately one in eight women in the United States," said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. "Kia vehicles such as the Sportage, Optima and Soul are perfect vehicles for a cross-country road trip, and it is our privilege to provide these vehicles that will help HerHighway get the word out about breast cancer."

The "Drive Breast Cancer Awareness" campaign started in 2011 when its founder Christina Selter, HerHighway's Editor-in-Chief, was diagnosed with possible ALCL, a rare form of liquid breast cancer. Since her diagnosis, Selter's goal has been to bring potentially life-saving information about breast cancer to women across the country through this drive. A few weeks after the conclusion of the event, Selter will undergo a full Capsulectomy.

"The best car buying experience I've ever had" says this 5-star review on Edmunds!

"Recently purchased a 2013 Kia Sportage. My sales person was Thomas Chay, nicest guy you ever want to meet. I had previously spoken to Thomas and told him what I was looking for. He told me the color and options I had chosen were hard to find but he would look for me. The next day I noticed that what I told him may have been incorrect so I decided to stop by after work and meet him in person and verify what he was looking for. I hadn't taken a test drive so Thomas convinced me to test drive one that was already on the lot. I was only gone about 20 minutes. Came back and Thomas had written up a deal for me. I told him if it was a great deal I would consider buying the black 2013 EX Sportage. Well what Thomas had written up was less than I had planned to spend so...so far so good. I then told him that I hadn't expected to actually buy today and I hadn't been home from work yet and that I was tired and about to be hungry and didn't want to spend a lot of time there so you tell me what I need to know before I spend a lot of time with the finance guy. Thomas did as much as he could and sent me to finance. Rob Z, finance guy, turned out to be a great guy. I normally hate the finance guys but Rob Z was cool. Treated me just as well as Thomas Chay did. I was probably with him for about 45 minutes to an hour but that was mostly my questions and me take notes and checking folder that I brought with me. I've bought several cars new and used and I've learned to do my research and both these guys were very patient with me and my volume of questions and comparing what they said to my research. I was in and out in about 3 hours and at least an hour and a half of that time was spent with my questions and Thomas going over the features with me. Thomas gave me a good deal and Rob followed up and got me a better rate than my credit union. Bottom line, this was the best car buying experience I've ever had. I'd buy a car from these 2 guys any day!" - amcmillian1

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Check your spare tire

2

Remember to check that your spare tire is properly inflated too. The typical space-saver spare tire found in most cars must be inflated to the inflation pressure listed on the side of the tire. A tire pressure gauge costs $7 to $20.

A big thanks to Angela for this fantastic review on our Facebook page!

"Thomas Chay and Rob Z you guys are the best. I've bought quite a few cars in my day, new and used, and hands down this recent experience was the best car buying experience I've ever had! Best salesman and finance guy I've ever dealt with. I'm loving my new Sportage!" - Angela M.

Another 5-star review on Edmunds for Fairfax Kia!

"Even though they are 50 miles from our home, we went to Fairfax because they had the Optima Hybrid in the color and with the options we wanted, and the price over the phone sounded right. When we got there, we learned our car had been rear-ended during a test drive but was coming out of the body shop the next day. Kia had put a new bumper on it, and Fairfax took that into consideration on the price. We agreed on a price and to come back the next day for a test drive and to finish the paperwork. When we got there the next day, we were told that the body shop had left the doors open for weeks while working on it and the power drain had destroyed the Hybrid battery (and you just can't swap out batteries in these things) so they had to get a new battery from the factory which could take months. So another car just like we wanted was on their inventory and scheduled to arrive the following week. To take advantage of the $2000 in incentives that were going to expire that weekend, we signed all the paperwork with the understanding that Fairfax would deliver the car to us. Well, the day our car was to be delivered, Fairfax called and said our car did not come in but another identical one (the third car, now) they were not expecting did. But that meant we had to return to the dealership to redo all of the paperwork; not happy! But we did and during the test drive, we verified that all of the options we wanted were listed on the window sticker, though we did not take the time to verify they were all actually installed. To Fairfax's credit, they had all of the paperwork pre-done and it took less than 5 minutes for us to sign it. (Contrary to some of the other reviews, we thought the business manager provided exceptional service.) The next day it was 93 degrees when I got in the car so I wanted to turn on the cooled seats. That's when we discovered that even though listed on the window sticker as an installed option, there was no switch installed for it in our car. We called Fairfax and after sending them pictures, they went above and beyond by convincing our local Kia dealer to look at the issue instead of making us return to Fairfax AGAIN. Turns out that the factory in Korea installed the wrong console in our Hybrid. Our local dealer simply replaced the console (which contained the cooled seat switch) and everything works fine. The point to all of this is that NONE of these issues were Fairfax's fault. Yet KC, Bryant, and Matt on the sales staff all took ownership of these issues and saw them through to a successful conclusion, and we are happy customers. We definitely would recommend them." - kia4life

Until now, driving enthusiasts couldn't get their hands on the Rio they were most eager to own--that's about to change. The 2013 Rio 5-door SX is now offered with a 6-speed manual transmission (M/T). Arriving in dealerships in limited quantity with a MSRP of just $17,9004, the Rio SX M/T is a fun-to-drive subcompact that satisfies enthusiasts' desires for a more engaging drive experience without sacrificing the comfort and convenience offered by the subcompact model's highest trim level. The Rio SX M/T is inspired by Kia's championship winning motorsports efforts and the recently-introduced Rio B-spec race car. Enthusiasts should get in line now as less than 500 Rio SX M/Ts will be initially offered for sale during the 2013 model year.

The Rio 5-door SX M/T comes standard with a class-leading 138 horsepower5 4-cylinder double- overhead cam gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engine featuring dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and fuel economy of 30-mpg city/40-mpg highway6. "The Kia Rio 5-door SX M/T is perfect for driving enthusiasts who simply won't compromise when it comes to certain features," said Orth Hedrick, Director of Product Planning at Kia Motors America (KMA). "Our customers and the automotive press have been asking for the Rio 5-door SX with a manual transmission, and we've listened. As the Kia brand becomes more and more relevant to enthusiasts, we'll continue to evaluate consumer demand and consider bringing other high-spec manuals to market."Those looking for the inspiration behind the Rio 5-door SX M/T need look no further than the twisting, undulating macadam of America's greatest road racing circuits. In addition to its championship winning professional road racing program, Kia this year entered the new B-Spec grassroots racing series, and the Rio SX M/T offers buyers the sporty driving dynamics that transfer from the track to the street. To advance from driving enthusiast to racer10, customers can purchase a 2013 Rio 5-door M/T (LX Trim) and a B-Spec performance kit11 available at a cost of $14,000 from Kia's racing partner, Kinetic Motorsports. The kit includes everything needed to transform the street-loving Rio 5-door into a proper racecar: pre-cut roll cage, racing seat, quick-release steering wheel, racing harness, race shocks, lightweight wheels, spec-series tires, oil sump pan expansion kit and complete build instructions. "It was a great and easy car purchasing experience" says this 5-star review of Fairfax Kia on Edmunds!

"My husband and I set out to find a small SUV with the best value, quality and warranty. My brother-in-law who investigates car accidents said that KIA was the best value on the road today and they have really changed the look and features of their cars in recent years. I’m so happy I listened to him and stopped by Fairfax KIA. Johnny was so friendly and helpful. He let us take our time, drive the vehicles, and there was no pressure to buy. You cannot beat a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and free roadside assistance. If you buy at the Fairfax location, they offer free oil changes and tune-ups for the life of the vehicle. The financing can’t be beat either, we came in armed with numbers from our credit union and Rob in the finance department beat our APR and matched a very low gap insurance price, so we ended up financing through them. He even gave us some pointers on how to improve our credit. After the purchase, instead of herding us out the door since they were closed, Johnny took us outside and showed us how to work all the features of the vehicle so we could get familiar with it. It was a great and easy car purchasing experience and we love our new Sportage. It is loaded with every feature you need for a lot less than comparable vehicles (and we know, we did research). We highly recommend Fairfax KIA." - Jeninfairfax

Big thanks to GJ for this great review on Yelp!

"I can only speak about their service department as we bought our Kia elsewhere. I typically avoid dealer service like the plague as I have rarely, if ever, had a positive experience with a dealership repair, but these folks surprised me. We had two repairs done at the same time, one because we could only get the parts though the dealer. The cost for the first repai was actually less than my regular mechanic was going to charge ( if he could get the part) and the cost of the 2nd was just $80 more than my guy quoted. They gave us a loaner for the day while doing the repair. I was late ( after service center closing) in my pickup and they stayed the extra 10 minutes it took to get through traffic. The guy who checked me out was courteous and asked me if I had any questions. My kid left video game parts in the loaner and they rescued them for him. I am happy with the repairs and several days later we got a Robocall from the dealership making sure we were happy and didn't have any concerns. (If you do it patches you through or records your complaint, IDK we didn't need it) I didn't give 5 stars because, well, it's a dealership and frankly it's a lot for me to even bother to write a review, but these guys might just change my mind about dealership service. Hopefully I won't need service soon, but yeah I would consider going back and from me, that's saying a lot." - GJ I.
